Cinque Terre Card: Is It Worth Buying for Your Vacation in Cinque Terre?

Purchasing the Cinque Terre Card is not mandatory; you can visit Cinque Terre without it, but it can help you save money. It all depends on your plans: how often you intend to use the train to move between villages, whether you plan to hike the Blue Path. It's important to note that the Cinque Terre Card does not include boat transportation.

The Cinque Terre Card offers two options, the only difference is whether train transportation is included. The table below shows what is included and how much it costs if you haven't purchased the Cinque Terre Card. Please note that to access the Blue Path, you must have the Cinque Terre Card, which can be obtained directly at the trail entrance.

Cinque Terre Card Cinque Terre Card + Train Cost if Purchased Separately
Access to all sections of the Blue Path Yes Yes Not Sold Separately
Bus transportation in each village (useful if you plan to visit Corniglia) Yes Yes 1.50 euros if purchased at the train station. 2.50 euros if purchased from the bus driver
Access to Wi-Fi at train stations Yes Yes Not Sold Separately
Use of restrooms at train stations Yes Yes 1 euros.
Regional train travel between La Spezia, the 5 villages of Cinque Terre, and Levanto NO Yes Single tickets cost 5-10 euros. The cost varies depending on when you travel.
?

Purchasing the Cinque Terre Card is worth it if you plan to visit Cinque Terre for one day (at least 3 villages) or if you plan to hike the Blue Trail. However, if you intend to visit only 2 villages in one day, then buying the Cinque Terre Card doesn't make sense.

You can purchase the Cinque Terre Card at three locations, and the price remains the same:

  • Online, on this website (tickets are usually sold from late March to early November). You need to specify the exact date, and it cannot be changed. You can show the ticket from your phone during the check.
  • In tourist offices at train stations in La Spezia, Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso, and Levanto. During lunchtime or early in the morning before the office opens, you can buy the card at the train station ticket counter.
  • At the entrance to the Blue Trail.
?

Important Information about the Cinque Terre Card

1. The ticket must include your name and surname. If you bought the ticket at the counter, you must validate it at the train station to indicate the date and time of your first trip; otherwise, you may be fined!

2. The Cinque Terre Card + train includes only regional and express trains! Long-distance trains, such as Intercity and Freccia, usually only stop in Monterosso and are not included in the ticket!

3. In winter, train tickets are cheaper, and the Cinque Terre Card also offers a discount of about 20%. However, since the trails may be closed in winter, buying the Cinque Terre Card in winter is not cost-effective.
