What to See and Do in Monterosso

Monterosso al Mare: The Perfect Getaway in Cinque Terre.

Monterosso al Mare is the last and largest of the five villages in Cinque Terre. It boasts the highest number of hotels, making it a convenient place to stay. The village is situated on flatter terrain, and there are hardly any stairs here.

Monterosso is the only village in Cinque Terre where you can find sandy beaches. In other coastal villages, pebbles or large stones prevail. If you're looking for a place for a beach vacation, we recommend booking a hotel in Monterosso (see the list of available hotels).

At the end of the page, you'll find a map with key locations marked, it will come in handy!

Cinque Terre in 1 day: we recommend visiting Monterosso in the morning; the sun illuminates Monterosso from early morning, while the other villages (except Corniglia) are best visited in the afternoon.

Exiting the train station, you'll arrive at the largest beach, Fegina Beach, right away. Turning right and walking for 10 minutes, you'll come across the Statue of Neptune perched on the rocks at the end of the beach, created in 1910. This is where the trail leading to the cape begins. For more details on the trails, check the page “Trails: Map and Status”.

Returning to the train station, you can now explore what's on the left side. There, you'll find the historic center of Monterosso. Just follow the promenade, and in 10 minutes, you'll be in the heart of the village. Along the way, you'll see the Capuchin Monastery on the hill that separates Fegina from the center, and at the base of the hill stands the Aurora Tower from the 16th century. In the center itself, you'll find the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Mortis-et-Orationis Chapel.
